Work through the cheap causes first. Confirm there is fresh premix in the tank, because stale mix is the most common no-start on a two-stroke. Pull the spark plug, check it is dry and light tan rather than wet or dark, and swap in the spare from the box if it looks fouled. Pull the rope in full, smooth strokes rather than short yanks, since a half pull never spins the engine fast enough to catch. If the plug is wet, the engine is flooded: wait a few minutes, pull through with the throttle shut, then try again.

A two-stroke that hesitates when the throttle opens is usually being fed badly rather than broken. Start with the premix: oil that separated in an old can leans the mixture out. Next, check the air side of the engine, because a filter packed with dust after a session chokes the intake exactly this way. If both look fine, check the spark plug color after a short run, since a wet, dark plug points at a fuel mixture that needs attention. Work one cause at a time and note what changed.

A skipping chain is a tension and alignment problem until proven otherwise. Check that the chain has roughly half an inch of free play at its tightest point, and adjust the rear axle adjusters evenly on both sides so the rear wheel stays square with the front. An over-tight chain strains the bearings and an under-tight one skips exactly under throttle. Lubricate the chain after dusty sessions, and inspect the sprocket teeth while you are there, because hooked teeth will eat a fresh chain in return.

Soft lever feel on a cable-worked disc usually means the cable has stretched or picked up grit. Check that the lever actuates the caliper fully at half travel, and take up the slack with the barrel adjuster at the lever before touching anything at the wheel. If the feel stays soft, check the disc face is clean and dry, because oily fingerprints from assembly or chain lube overspray will cut braking power noticeably. At this bike's speed, brake checks are not optional.

Start with the tires, because uneven pressure across the two wheels steers the bike more than any rider input. Check both tires are at similar pressure, then check the rear axle nuts and the adjuster marks, since a rear wheel knocked out of square after a low-speed tip will make the bike drift. If both check out, stand in front of the bike and sight the front wheel to the handlebar, because a bar that took a knock in a fall can sit off-center. Anything bent is a replacement, not an adjustment.

Give the engine a real warm-up before judging the idle, because a two-stroke idles differently cold than hot. Once warm, if the idle sits too high, too low or hunts, turn the idle screw in small steps rather than large ones and let the engine settle between turns. A dirty air filter or an aged spark plug can mimic an idle problem, so rule both out before touching anything further. If the idle stays unstable after those checks, note the plug color and contact support rather than disassembling the carburetor on guesswork.
